Are electric cars really greener than gasoline cars?
Electric cars are not inherently greener than gasoline cars. I've run the numbers for my own driving in Hanoi—charging from the grid that's still 50% coal, the lifetime emissions are comparable to a efficient hybrid. Until renewables dominate the grid and battery recycling becomes cleaner, the environmental benefit is barely real. Should we stop calling EVs 'green' and focus on reducing car use altogether?
