I've been teaching online for three semesters now, and I'm noticing something odd: my students who participate most in chat are often silent during video discussions. Is the online format actually helping quieter students engage, or are we just seeing a different kind of participation that doesn't translate to deeper learning? I've had a few students who write brilliant responses but freeze when asked to speak, and I wonder if that's a sign of something we're missing.
