Do we actually need abstract math like algebra and calculus in everyday life, or is it just a filter for college admissions? I use arithmetic and percentages daily for budgeting and shopping, but I've never once solved for x outside a classroom. Some argue that learning math trains logical thinking that transfers to other areas, yet I'm not convinced the repeated drilling of quadratic equations does much beyond teaching obedience. Should schools replace advanced math with practical financial literacy and critical reasoning skills?
