Is counting calories still the best way to manage weight?
Counting calories has been the go-to method for weight management for decades, but I'm starting to question if this approach is missing the bigger picture. When I tracked my meals obsessively last year, I lost weight initially, yet the moment I stopped counting, the pounds crept back because I never learned to listen to my hunger cues. Nutrition research now suggests that two people can eat the exact same number of calories and get completely different metabolic responses based on gut bacteria and insulin sensitivity. Should we really keep telling people that a calorie is just a calorie, or is it time to shift our focus toward food quality and individual biology?
