Can we really train ourselves to be more optimistic, or is our happiness set-point fixed?
Can we really train ourselves to be more optimistic, or is our baseline happiness just wired in? I've tried gratitude journaling for months and felt a small shift, but my sister swears it does nothing for her. Behavioral science suggests we can change habits, yet genetics account for about half of our happiness set-point. Maybe it's a mix, but I wonder if pushing optimism on everyone does more harm than good.
