Bike lanes in Hanoi are basically decorative lines that cars ignore, but the real problem is that our city planning treats motorbikes as temporary traffic that will disappear. I've lived in Cau Giay district for 12 years and watched the government spend billions of VND on elevated walkways and underpasses while the actual daily commute remains dominated by two-wheelers. Shouldn't we redesign streets around the vehicles people actually use instead of the ones we wish they'd switch to?
