Are soft skills overvalued in tech promotions?
I've worked in tech for six years, and I've seen colleagues with brilliant technical skills struggle to move up, while others with average coding but strong communication get promoted fast. Is that really fair, or are we overvaluing soft skills like teamwork and presentation at the expense of actual output? I'm not saying they're useless—clear communication definitely saves time—but the way we measure them in interviews is so subjective. Maybe the real issue is that we've turned 'soft skills' into a buzzword that lets managers hire people they simply like better.
