Smartphone cameras have gotten so good that I rarely reach for my mirrorless camera anymore, and it makes me wonder if dedicated photography equipment is becoming obsolete. A friend who shoots weddings professionally still swears by his full-frame gear, but for travel, street, and even some portrait work, my phone's computational photography delivers results that would've been unthinkable five years ago. Sure, low-light performance and bokeh still favor the big sensors, but the gap is narrowing every year—and the convenience of having a capable camera in my pocket means I capture moments I'd otherwise miss. Are we reaching a point where buying a separate camera is more about hobbyist ritual than practical need? I'm leaning toward yes, but I keep second-guessing when I see what a skilled photographer can coax out of a 200mm prime lens.
