Airbnb has transformed how we travel, but I'm starting to think it's eroding the authenticity of local neighborhoods. On a recent trip to Lisbon, I counted 40+ short-term rentals on one narrow street, pushing out long-term residents who can't compete with tourist prices. Sure, it's convenient and often cheaper than hotels, but when every other door has a key lockbox, are we really experiencing the city or just a curated version of it? I'm not saying we should ban it outright, but shouldn't there be stronger limits to protect the communities we claim to want to explore?
