Should we prioritize soft skills over technical ability when hiring engineers?
After two years of interviewing engineers for our startup, I've noticed the ones who ace technical tests often fail at teamwork, while the 'mediocre' coders with strong emotional intelligence end up leading projects. Yet we still hire based on hard skills because they're easier to measure. Isn't that backwards? I think soft skills are the real differentiator in a world where AI can write code but can't resolve conflicts—should we prioritize them over technical ability?
