After three semesters of online learning during the pandemic, I've noticed that while lectures are convenient, my retention of material from recorded sessions is significantly worse than from in-person classes. A 2021 study showed that students in remote settings scored about 8% lower on exams, but I wonder if that's because the environment or because we haven't designed online courses to be interactive enough. Could we actually make online learning better than face-to-face if we leveraged adaptive tech and smaller cohorts?
