Does overworking a relationship make it worse?
After ten years of marriage and two kids, I've started to wonder if the constant push for 'working on the relationship' is actually making us more anxious rather than more connected. My wife and I tried weekly date nights, communication check-ins, even a couples retreat once—and while some of it helped, a lot of it just felt like another chore. I'm not saying effort doesn't matter, but maybe we've over-romanticized the idea that love needs constant maintenance. The strongest couples I know don't talk about their relationship all the time; they just live it. Is it possible that overthinking marriage is what's slowly killing it for so many people?
