Should repairability be legally required for smartphones in the US?
After my phone's battery died mid-call twice this week, I'm convinced that repairability should be a legal requirement for all smartphones sold in the US. The EU's right-to-repair rules have made manufacturers keep parts and manuals available, but American companies still glue batteries and throttle repaired devices. Why should consumers pay $300 for a screen replacement when a $20 part and 10 minutes of work would fix it — if the design allowed it?
