Should we always question our doctor's recommended treatment?
After my father's heart attack last year, the ER doctors ran a battery of tests and immediately scheduled surgery—no second opinion, no discussion of alternatives. He recovered, but I've since learned that many cardiac procedures are overused, with studies showing that up to 20% of stents are unnecessary. Should we trust doctors' recommendations at face value, or is it wiser to challenge them with our own research and seek multiple opinions before agreeing to any major treatment?
