Do Meditation Apps Undermine Real Human Connection?
After a year of using a meditation app daily, I noticed my baseline anxiety did drop, but so did my patience for awkward silences in real conversations with friends. It feels like these tools train us to self-regulate in isolation, while actual emotional support often requires someone else's presence and messy, unscripted responses. Can text-based therapy or guided audio truly replicate the healing that comes from being heard by another human, or are we quietly trading shared vulnerability for convenient, transactional calm? I've seen studies touting app effectiveness, but they rarely measure loneliness over a 10-year horizon, and that gap makes me skeptical.
