Should advertising targeting children under 12 be banned outright?
Advertising that targets children under 12 should be banned outright, not just regulated. Last week my daughter asked for a sugary cereal because a cartoon character on the box promised a toy, and she couldn't understand why the ad was manipulative. Kids that age lack the critical thinking to recognize persuasive intent, so the usual self-regulation fails. Why do we allow companies to profit from exploiting that vulnerability?
