Adaptive reuse of old factories into lofts and offices is often praised, but I think it's overrated when the original structure wasn't designed for human habitation. I've toured converted mills where the windows are tiny, the ceilings are low, and the layout is a maze—renovation costs spiral and the result is less functional than a new build. Sure, the brick and beams look nice in photos, but do the people who actually live there find it comfortable? Should we keep pouring money into preserving industrial shells that were never meant for daily life, or is it time to start fresh?
